Constructivism and Constructionism

Current Definition
Epistemological and educational philosophies which emphasize that learning is a process of active knowledge construction and not of passive knowledge absorption. They stress the connection between understanding and experience, particularly with respect to creating and experimenting with objects to learn about abstract concepts. Constructionism extends constructivism by adding the additional feature that an external, shareable artifact is created. DODEs support constructionism by making the construction of an artifact a user-driven activity which provides the context for learning on demand.
